Treating Diarrhea in Dogs with Bland Diets

When your pet is suffering with dog diarrhea, you probably do your best to find a solution right away. Today, I will give you top 5 bland diets and simple home treatments that will give your pet a relief in a few hours.

For a start, instead of their regular food, give your pet small portion of a bland diet at least for 3 to 5 times a day.

Some of the bland diets are:
1. cooked white rice without butter or flavorings
2. cottage cheese with no water in it
3. boiled chicken or turkey with no skin, grease or flavorings
4. scrambled or boiled eggs without butter or oil
5. boiled or baked potato with the skin off and without flavorings
You can continue to feed your pet this diet for a few days. Make sure to give it a small portion several times a day and gradually increase the serving size.

Once the ailment is gone, start to give your pet the usual diet. While your pet is dealing with this ailment, don’t give it pet bones, snacks or table scraps since they may irritate the digestive system.

Here are two over-the-counter medicines that you can give to your dog: Imodium AD (1 ml per 10 lbs. every 8 hours) and Kaopectate (0.05-0.1 mg/pound by mouth every 8 hours.) Use the above weight guideline to get the right dosage for your pet.

In most cases, this ailment can easily be cured at home. The diarrhea treatment discussed here should be used for one to two days. However, in some instances, the ailment may not go away on its own and needs veterinarian intervention.
